The pioneering pods have been powering through on their journey to their calving waters of Hervey Bay. The dolphins at Point Lookout always gather in great numbers when the whales are due and appear to be waiting around in excited clutches eagerly awaiting their arrival. more... |

On the 10th of May a group of Straddie kids will travel to Brisbane for circus workshops conducted at the Power House. This adventure follows on the heels of previous workshops with the Flipside Circus and will teach them new skills in trapeze, tight rope and fire twirling. Youthlink is the driving force behind the opportunity and will be holding an event on the 24th of May to showcase their new skills and to welcome the whales in a fun family event.
Youthlink also organised a BMX Bike and Skate Event on the 10th of April where local enthusiasts were treated to the thrills provided by a team of six pro skaters and a BMX Biker as they visited each of the three skate bowls on the Island. Driving back from Amity just on dusk yesterday, a distant humming sound punctuated the cool afternoon air and was carried aloft on the gentle sea breeze. The sound was unfamiliar in these seaside surroundings, but distinct and growing louder the nearer we got to the Point Lookout end of Flinders Beach. Scanning the beach for the source of the sound, following the graceful path of the flight of a sea eagle our gaze fell on a most unusual sight. There on the sand, standing beside a white four wheel drive was a lone bagpipe player, wearing not a kilt but a pair of speedos, and filling the evening air with the pitch perfect strains of Amazing Grace! How sweet the sound - and how strange the sight, not something you see everyday on the beach. We didn't want to interrupt his playing for a photo, but if anyone knows the identity of the mystery man please let us know. more... |
