The Straddie Salute – Off-road Triathlon & Teams Challenge

Media Release 10th July 2008

Taking place on North Stradbroke Island on Sunday October 12th the Straddie Salute is an off-road triathlon and teams challenge aimed at the weekend fitness enthusiast. The Point Lookout-based course is bound to take your breath away – literally! The course starts with a 600m ocean swim and is followed by an 18km cycle on the island’s 4WD & sealed roads. The last leg is a 9km run along one of the most scenic coastal trails in Queensland.

It is being promoted as “an adventure in nature’s playground” and has already attracted interest from outside south east Queensland.

Event director, John Guise, says the event is more about “fun than serious competition”

and is ideal for the “weekend warrior” who is just looking to keep fit. Being at the start of the 2008/2009 triathlon season it’s also an ideal training event for more dedicated triathletes.

The Straddie Salute coincides with the migration of the last of the humpback whales as they travel south on their annual pilgrimage. Point Lookout is renowned for its whale watching and competitors are being advised to spend some time on the island to enjoy all that Straddie has to offer.

The event is open to individual and team entries. Event sponsor Stradbroke Ferries are offering an exclusive early bird rate to competitors.

If you’re looking for a challenge or just want to enter a fun new event with a couple of mates check out The Straddie Salute at www.weekendwarriorevents.com.au  or pick up an entry form at Cycle City Redlands.
