MEDIA RELEASE: Floating Pictures: Bay Views world premiere and art fair on this Saturday
(25 June 2009)

A Bay Island Transit System vessel, the MV Canaipa, will become a floating cinema as part of the Bay Views digital stories project. The Canaipa will cruise Moreton Bay screening a series of short films that celebrate the unique communities of the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.

Meanwhile on the beach at Karragarra Island, the cream of the islands’ vibrant arts community will exhibit artworks in sculpture, painting, jewellery, woodwork, leadlight, ceramics, mosaics and photography.  The Karragarra Island activities for children and adults alike will include action painting, silk ribbon making, raft building, origami and a wishing tree.  Local community organisations will be supplying refreshments.

Floating Pictures runs from 10am-3pm, Saturday June 27 on Karragarra Island.

Ferry services to the island leave from Redland Bay.

There will be two programs screening: Program A tells stories from Macleay, Lamb and Garden Islands’; Program B tells stories from nearby Russell and Karragarra Islands.

Movie tickets are free and can be collected on the day from the ticket box on Karragarra jetty.  Bring a picnic rug and enjoy the hospitality of this beautiful island retreat.
