2009 Artist in Residence (Eco Ephemeral) Pilot Project, North Stradbroke Island and Vision for 2010

PROJECT DESCRIPTION:

Artist in Residence (Eco Ephemeral) Pilot Project was a three week residency at North Stradbroke Island commencing June 1 2009.

  

The artist Casselle Mountford;

- conducted art workshops at Dunwich State School.

- worked in collaboration with artist/photographer Katie Howe documenting the process and outcomes.

- conducted a Tree Dressing workshop with found materials at Youthlink's Whale Welcoming Ceremony, June 28.

- installed 24+ individual art works using beach found and recycled materials along the Gorge Walk, Point Lookout during School holidays June 28 – July 12, 2009

 

The finished work was viewed by approximately 1500 island residents and visitors who do the walk during the winter months. An outdoor projection event of photographs documenting the project, was held July 24 at Moreton Bay Research Station, and is scheduled for Oct 30 – Nov 1 at Island Vibe music festival, Point Lookout.

The Regional Arts Development Fund is a Queensland Government and Redland City Council

partnership to support local arts and culture.

 

 A 2009 FEEDBACK FORM SUMMARY is currently available at the Gelati Shop, Pt Lookout for those who experienced Casselle's creations and who wish to comment.

2010 ARTISTS CORE BRIEF

- 3 artists to work for 20 hours on site at the Gorge Walk; working consecutively the weeks commencing June 19, 26, July 3. This allows for school excursions to the workshops and installations and also involves QLD holiday makers

-  Artists to work in residence and onsite at the headland

- Utilise natural and recycled materials found on the island

- Gorge Walk to be the location for both installation and workshops

-  Artist to provide an ‘Artists’ Statement’ and work sheet for children and young people

-  Artists to deliver in total 3 workshop for children and young people; accessible during the school holidays for residents and visitors, also before QLD school holidays to enable school excursions to the project.

 

2010 CORE PROJECT BRIEF

- Creatively explore environmentally sensitive beach ecology that ultimately reflects both the strengths and fragility of this environment

- Expand perceptions of art beyond the notion of gallery systems, co modification and permanence

- Build a wider framework for island residents and tourists to engage in local contemporary art practice

- Promote understanding of human impact on the island and Quandamooka.

 

- Foster innovation in project partners

- Promotion and Marketing; document and archive the process online at straddieonline.com.au,

- Develop a strong marketing and promotion strategy.
