Acclaimed local artist is awarded art prize - again!
(15 December 2009)

New Zealand born artist Denis Brockie has lived and worked from his studio at Point Lookout on North Stradbroke Island since making his home there in 1988. A former sign writer, Brockie held his first solo exhibition in 2005 to great acclaim and sparked the interest of the art community.

Mr. Brockie is hailed as an accomplished landscape artist, whose beautifully executed works in acrylic are much sought after and have brought him respect and recognition Australia wide.

He first won the coveted d’Arcy Doyle Landscape Prize in 2006, and last week was awarded the honour for the second time in the 2009 competition.

Mr. Brockie’s winning entry entitled “Wet Season – Heavy Swell” was judged by highly respected graphic designer, painter and printmaker, Mr. Richard Blundell who is the Deputy Director of Griffith University Queensland College of Art and acclaimed fine art and antique appraiser, Ms. Athina Astras at the Mudgeeraba Foundation Centre on the Gold Coast.

Brockie’s paintings make an impact with his impeccable use of colour and subject matter that is close to his heart. His seascapes inspire the viewer to take a second look at familiar sights with new eyes and appreciation.

His prize winning 2006 entry is on display at the Coral Sea Gallery at Point Lookout, and for the next two months, the gallery will host an exhibition of Denis’s paintings showcasing some of his smaller studies and most recent works. All works are for sale both in the gallery and online at www.straddieonline.com.au

The exhibition will commence on the 18th of December and will run until the 28th of February 2010. The Coral Sea Gallery is open to the public 7 days a week from 9.30am to 4.30pm.
