An unknown group of holiday makers enjoying an afternoon break at one of Billy North's huts around 1910. William Roger North or 'Billy' as he was known, constructed huts and shacks on the site of the present Samarinda complex from the late 1890's until the 1920's. He was assisted by Ted Ruska and other Straddie residents in these endeavours. Transport to these huts was by horseback from Dunwich or by horse and cart along the beach from Amity driven by Richard Perry. Richard Perry provided this service for many eyars until Bertie Clayton's vehicular service was introduced along the beach from Amity in the 1930's. After WWII Durbidges trucks and buses provided an excellent service to Point Lookout from Amity until the 1960's when roads were constructed and barge services permitted the use of private vehicles.
