CRAIG TAPP (Ngugi Nunukul)
Born on the 9th of October 1964 in Ipswich Queensland artist Craig Tapp came to North Stradbroke Island twenty years ago
and currently resides and paints in Dunwich. Craig is a regular contributor to the works displayed by the Salt Water Murris Quandamooka Art Group. His recent work is in much demand around Australia and he has created an impressive portfolio since he began expressing himself through painting and sculpting eight years ago.
Craig believes that his creativity comes to him through the environment that he cherishes and that he has a strong desire to protect for future generations. He is passionate about the earth, his culture and the spirit presence he feels when he is creating. Craig says that his art is like a dance on canvas, and that he paints from his heart about whatever moves him to express his feelings in the colours and shapes he uses. He is affected by the Island's moods and majesty and he believes that his main inspiration lies in the beauty and fragility of our unique environment and how urgent the message is to protect it before it becomes too late.
Craig has begun experimenting with a new style of painting that he calls Tappy Skatt Art an example of which is his own Dreaming of Rainbow Serpent displayed here in the gallery.
